"With a court order to reopen donkey slaughterhouses, donkeys will be wiped out from the face of Kenya within the next two years," Mulembani said. Mulembani urged CS Munya to move with speed and withdraw licences for all donkey slaughterhouses and degazette donkeys as food animals. In 2009, Kenya Population and Housing Census reported the donkey population as 1,832,519. Along with Star Brilliant, three slaughterhouses are set to reopen following the lifting of the ban.
