The Groningen fans were protesting against the club’s relegation from the Dutch top division. After the players returned to the field, the game was once again disrupted by further smoke bombs launched from the box. Before the disruption of the game, Ajax was third in the league with a good chance of not qualifying for the Champions League or Europa League next season with its 63 points. Throwing smoke bombs onto the field is not only dangerous but also disrupts the game and affects everyone involved.
