EU seals tax transparency deal despite Irish concerns

A new EU law forcing multinationals to reveal the tax they pay per country has got the green light, despite Irish opposition. The preliminary deal, reached late on Tuesday, will make large companies (with a global turnover of at least €750m) publish the tax they pay in each EU country, as well as in EU-listed tax havens. “It’s doubly disappointing that Ireland is one of a small number of EU Member States to have publicly opposed measures for real tax transparency,” he said. The deal must still be approved by a majority of MEPs and EU ministers, and campaigners at Transparency International have called on them to reject it. And the Paris-based Organisation for Cooperation and Development (OECD) is discussing the idea as one of the pillars of its global corporate tax deal.
