Edouard Maurice condemns Liberal government's three-page report on rural crime

EDMONTON — The Alberta couple who became the centre of the controversy over self-defence and rural crime condemned a parliamentary report on rural crime Thursday, saying the Liberal government doesn’t understand the erosion of confidence in the justice system in rural areas. Last week, the House of Commons public safety committee released a report on rural crime. When police showed up, Edouard Maurice was arrested, and charged with firearms-related offences. “They could commit to providing support for police and prosecutors on charges against individuals who defend themselves and their families,” says the Conservative dissent in the committee report. “We feel this report doesn’t have any actionable suggestions or resolve the rural crime problems we are having,” says the statement from Jessica and Edouard MauriceWith files from The Canadian Press• Email: tdawson@postmedia.com | Twitter: tylerrdawson
