Egypt is expected to see a slowdown in its real GDP growth of three percent in 2021, down from the 3.6 percent in 2020, before rebounding to 4.9 percent in 2022, according to the African Development Bank (AfDB). North Africa’s real GDP is expected to bounce back to four percent in 2021 and to six percent in 2022, also according to the report. The report projected Africa’s real GDP growth to rebound by 3.4 percent during 2021 after contracting by 2.1 percent in 2020 due to the globally unprecedented COVID–19 pandemic. Accordingly, the report expected the continent’s debt burdens to go up by 10 to 15 percent over short to medium term. Africa’s inflation is projected to see a decline to nine percent in 2021, down from 10.4 percent in 2020, according to the report.
