Egypt is currently grappling with one of its most severe weather events in years as a “heavy” polar depression dominates the region. The current instability, which began intensifying late Tuesday, reached its peak on Wednesday and is expected to continue through Thursday. A ‘rare and powerful’ occurrenceThe head of the Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture, Mohamed Fahim, described the depression as a rare and powerful meteorological event. The situation is more severe in the Sinai Peninsula, the Red Sea mountains, and the Gulf of Suez, where rainfall has escalated into full-scale flash floods. Meanwhile, Greater Cairo and the Suez Canal cities are experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall that is expected to intensify throughout the day.
