Eight prison warders suspended after inmates escape

Eight prison warders have been suspended from duty, after four capital offence inmates escaped from the Kibos main Prison in Kisumu County. The inmates escaped on Thursday night by cutting the window grills of their cell, before climbing over the five meter-high prison perimeter wall using blankets and sheets. Misik said that following preliminary investigations, the officer who was on duty during the Thursday incident was among the first warders to be suspended on Friday. The four who escaped from prison are: Douglas Onyancha, Kennedy Wesonga, Keneth Lekesho and Salim Sifuna. According to Nyanza Region Prisons Commandant Amos Misik, the eight officers have been interdicted in order to allow for investigations into the prison break.
