Deputy Director General of Manufacturing Industry Development Institute, Sileshi Lema, spoke about the success of the Made in Ethiopia movement in strengthening the domestic capacity of the industry. Ethiopia used to spend more than a billion US dollars annually on textile imports, now it produces textiles and garments on a large scale. Professor Tamerat Tesfaye, Scientific Director at the Ethiopian Institute of Textile and Fashion Technology, said the institute trains professionals and skilled workers to support the industry. "The textile and garment industry is crucial for job creation, economic growth and cultural exchange in Africa," professor Tamerat Tesfaye emphasised.
