The ministry also disclosed that 15 patients succumbed to illnesses related to the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the East African country to 380. The East African country reported about four percent of Africa's total confirmed COVID-19 cases during the past week, according to the Africa CDC's latest weekly COVID-19 situation update. On Friday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across the African continent has exceeded 1 million mark, reaching 1,007,366 confirmed cases as the number of deaths related to COVID-19 also rose to 22,066, according to the Africa CDC. Ethiopia, Africa's second-most populous nation with about 107 million people, confirmed its first case of COVID-19 on March 13, and has so far conducted some 478,017 COVID-19 medical tests, according to the Ethiopian Ministry of Health.
