They should be in school, not a marriage BIGSTOCKAn unjustifiable curse on our societyThe negative effects of early marriage come in many variations that are being widely discussed recently. The issue of child marriage encompasses various social and economic barriers that still exist in Bangladesh, where the rate of child marriage is one of the highest in the world. The government operates two helplines (1098 and 109) to combat violence against women and children; it also provides outreach services to women and children to stop child marriage. If we can bring out and empower the survivors of child marriage and present them as examples, it will largely help the cause. Concerted efforts by the government, NGOs, and society can largely reduce early marriage and help early married girls make a comeback and lead a prosperous life.
