Industry groups say food exports are projected to decline by 7.3% year-on-year to 1.4 trillion baht this year. Since March, war in the Middle East has disrupted the food industry, while surging energy prices have strained the global economy and trade, including Thai food exports. Despite these challenges, Ms Paiyada predicts food exports have a promising future because food is essential. Visit Limlurcha, chairman of the Processed Food and Future Food Committee of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, highlighted export opportunities in future food, particularly functional food items and other commodities such as vegetable oils. Thailand's future food exports rose from 79.5 billion baht in 2020 to 134 billion last year, accounting for 8.9% of total food exports last year, according to the NFI.
