Former Darlington & Stockton Times editor marks 90th birthday


Former colleagues of an “old school newspaperman” have reunited to mark his 90th birthday. Peter Ridley was editor of the Darlington & Stockton Times betweeen 1981 and 1992 and also previously serveas as an assistant editor at The Northern Echo. Peter’s daughters, Jane and Alison, organised a 90th birthday party for him at Darlington Cricket Club which was attended by a host of former colleagues. Guests at the bash included former Echo editors Allan Prosser and Peter Barron, legendary columnist Mike Amos, and Malcolm Warne who succeeded Peter as editor at the Times. He was an outstanding John North diary columnist for The Northern Echo and a fine editor and custodian of the Darlington and Stockton Times, whose traditions he cherished.
