GNU plans aviation holding company as part of transport sector revival

The Government of National Unity (GNU) says it has taken practical steps towards establishing a holding company specialising in the aviation sector, as part of a broader plan to revive transport services. The announcement followed a meeting between the transport minister and the prime minister’s financial adviser, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, with senior Libyan officials and executives from US aircraft manufacturer Boeing. According to the government, discussions focused on assessing the Libyan aviation market, identifying technical and operational requirements for launching the company, and outlining legal steps for its formal registration. The meeting also addressed the size of the future fleet, training programmes for Libyan personnel, and potential areas of cooperation with Boeing to support the project. Officials said the initiative is being pursued alongside ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Transport to upgrade airports nationwide, with the aim of improving service quality, boosting efficiency in the aviation sector, and supporting economic diversification.
