Combined with some dour economic news from Europe, the signals sent stocks broadly lower on Friday. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 stock index finished 3 percent lower on Monday, in the region’s biggest drop. Shares in China fell broadly as well, as the Shanghai Composite index ended nearly 2 percent lower. In Australia, the S.&P./ASX 200 index finished down 1.1 percent. South Korea’s stock market, as based on the Kospi stock index, fell 1.9 percent.
