GoPro Pulls Production Of U.S.-Bound Hardware Out Of China

Leading action camera-maker GoPro announced this week it will move production of “most” of its U.S.-bound cameras” out of China to avoid being caught up in the ongoing trade war between Beijing and Washington. In a statement released Monday, GoPro’s Chief Financial Officer Brian McGee said: “Today’s geopolitical business environment requires agility, and we’re proactively addressing tariff concerns by moving most of our U.S.-bound camera production out of China. It is likely GoPro will move production of its U.S. products to a Southeast Asian country, such as Vietnam. It’s worth noting that GoPro isn’t completely abandoning China — far from it. GoPro has struggled in recent years against increasing competition from smartphones as well as copycat products, and its foray into drone production, The Karma, has struggled to make an impact against industry leader DJI, headquartered in Shenzhen.
