The centre on Saturday appointed Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, an India Revenue Service officer (C&IT:88) as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs after the superannuation of Vivek Johri on July 31. Sanjay Kumar Agarwal was working as member (investigation) in the CBIC board since March 1, 2022. The CBIC has also appointed Senior IRS officer Surjit Bhujabal as member investigation, CBIC. An 1989 batch IRS officer, Bhujbal was working as Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) in November, 2022, an apex intelligence organization functioning under the CBIC, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.
