more-inThe Farmer Producer Organisations (FPO) launched by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in the State have set a model for the country, K.S.M. Delivering the keynote address at the inaugural function of an organic green tea factory set up by the Wayanad Green Tea Producer Company, the first such FPO in the tea sector of the country, at Karadippara in the district on Thursday, Ms. Lakshmi said the better performance of the organisations had inspired NABARD to launch more such FPOs in the unorganised small-scale plantation sectors to ensure sustained income for farmers. All FPOs had registered good performance so far, inspiring the government to launch 2,000 similar organisations in the country. A total of 2,179 producer organisations had been formed and nurtured in the country, of which 106 were in the State, she said. Subsidiary“The NABARD has recently launched a subsidiary organisation, NABKISAN Finance Limited, and it is specifically concentrating in financial assistance to the FPOs,” Ms. Lakshmi.
