The signature fireworks show for Lunar New Year may be canceled a second time, another major event in Hong Kong to fall by the wayside over the city's epidemic, according to reports. The firework display in 2020 for Lunar New Year has previously been canceled due to the city’s social unrest. In view of Hong Kong’s epidemic, the government has since canceled the Lunar New Year fairs and the Tai Po Lam Tsuen Well-Wishing Festival. Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor earlier told citizens to prepare for a “relatively quiet'' Lunar New Year, asking members of the public to avoid social gatherings. “This is not the time to relax and measures must be in place to contain the spread of the disease,” said Lam.
