Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s attacks on Deputy President William Ruto have now become personal and therefore unwarranted. The Mombasa governor should perhaps stop blaming ODM’s political misfortunes on Ruto whom they mishandled during the grand coalition government. In fact, Raila himself tried to suspend him but his decision was reversed by then President Mwai Kibaki. Joho knows well that without the support of Ruto, CORD is not going anywhere and this is why he has been persistent in criticising Ruto even on matters that have nothing to do with the deputy president. Leaders should engage in issue-based politics and not tribal campaigns that have divided Kenyans and sometimes caused them to fight.
