High-speed train crash in Spain leaves at least 21 dead


A high-speed Iryo train travelling from Malaga to Madrid derailed from the track near Adamuz in Andalusia. An Iryo train running between Malaga and Madrid went off the rails and slammed into a service from Madrid to Huelva, according to Spanish rail operator Adif. Emergency services in Andalusia, the province where the accident happened, said they had recorded 25 people with severe injuries. Adif said the accident happened ⁠about 10 minutes after the Iryo ⁠train left Cordoba heading towards Madrid at 6.40pm (5.40pm Irish time). The regional Civil Protection chief, Maria Belen Moya Rojas, told Canal Sur that the accident happened in an area that is hard to reach.
