Man arrested at 3.30am in West Cork was so drunk he 'couldn’t stand or speak'

A Galway man who was arrested at 3.30am in a Cork town was so inebriated he “couldn’t speak”, the district court has heard. Sergeant Tom Mulcahy told Skibbereen District Court gardaí were called to an incident at Pairc Goodman, Gortnaclohy in Skibbereen at 3.30am on the morning of December 28, 2025. The court heard Mr Fahy had had an argument with his partner and “couldn’t stand” and “couldn’t speak really” either. Fahy was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994. Defence solicitor Flor Murphy said Fahy was originally from Galway and had come to Cork with his partner, with whom he had two children.
