HoR members reaffirm commitment to Parliament's reform plan

A number of members of the House of Representatives (HoR) reaffirmed, during a consultative session held on Monday in the city of Benghazi, their commitment to the council’s reform plan, considering it a comprehensive framework and binding reference for addressing existing imbalances and restoring the effectiveness of the legislative institution. According to an internal memo circulated in the media, the members said that the plan announced during the session of the 20th of Ramadan represents a genuine starting point for reforming parliamentary work, stressing the need not to circumvent it or obstruct its implementation under any pretext. The statement added that attendees emphasized the importance of moving forward with implementing the reform plan’s provisions, in a way that contributes to improving institutional performance and enhancing the council’s efficiency in dealing with political and legislative files. A number of HoR members held the consultative session on Monday at the council’s headquarters in Benghazi in the absence of the presidency, marking the third such absence within a month, according to Benghazi MP Issam Al-Jahani. On March 11, HoR members voted on a roadmap to reform the council’s work, which includes the immediate amendment of internal regulations to allow for the re-election of the presidency and permanent committees, during a session held at the council’s headquarters in Benghazi.
