AP, WASHINGTONDemocratic members of the US House of Representatives on Monday subpoenaed Rudy Giuliani, US President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer who was at the heart of Trump’s efforts to get Ukraine to investigate former US vice president Joe Biden’s family. That was after one of Trump’s staunchest defenders, US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, said he would have “no choice” but to consider articles of impeachment if the House approved them. The circle of officials with knowledge of Trump’s phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy widened with the revelation that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo listened in on the July 25 conversation. McConnell swatted down talk that the Republican-controlled Senate could dodge the matter of impeachment if the House approved charges against Trump. Democrats have orders from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to keep momentum going, despite a two-week recess that started pm Friday.
