BEIRUT: The new glass-fronted buildings in the Beirut port area housed the offices of many media and business enterprises. The toll could have been much higher, but for two factors: Summer working hours and remote work. Many employees finished work at 3 p.m. and many others were working from home as part of the precautionary and preventive measures against COVID-19. “The port is opposite our offices and some of us had started to take pictures when we saw the fire. “Casualties could have been much higher if all the employees were present in the building,” she told Arab News.
