Although Kahn began working on the design in 1962, the building was not completed until 1982, eight years after his death. In a 11-page letter on Wednesday to the alumni, IIM-A Director Errol D’Souza said the dorm buildings were unsafe for living now. Currently, the dormitories can house 500 students and the plan is to build 800 rooms in a new hostel complex, reports said. Rabindra Vasavada, one of the first architects to join Kahn as an assistant in the 1960s, said the decision was an erasure of history itself.
