And with around 396,600 cases, Southern Africa was the continent’s worst-hit region, followed by North Africa (139,900) West Africa (111,000), East Africa (58,400), and Central Africa (43,600). South Africa has Africa’s most cases by far, with country topping 381,800 cumulative infections, ahead of Egypt (89,100), Nigeria (37,800), Cameroon (16,200) and Kenya (14,200). Southern Africa had more than 5,700 deaths, West Africa was above 1,700, East Africa had reached 1,400, and Central Africa had recorded 861. The proportion of cases from Africa rose from 2,8 percent in early June to more than five percent by mid-July. The country has recorded 8,534 infections and 196 deaths, making it the second worst-affected in SADC and ninth-highest in Africa.
