India: growers lose crops due to heavy rainfall


Heavy rainfall during November has come as a shock to farmers of Dharwad district, where 96,583 hectares of agricultural crops and 8,759 hectares of horticultural crops were affected. Floriculturists in Uppin Betageri, Mangalgatti, and Kurubgatti have suffered heavy losses. Nearly 7,000 hectares of red chili grown in Kundgol and Hubballi taluks, 40% of which have been damaged. 8,759 hectares of horticultural crops, including onion, flowers, tomato, and various other vegetables have been damaged. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad, Nitesh Patil, visited some of the fields in Kundgol, Dharwad, and Hubballi taluks to see this harsh reality.
