Policemen involved in the operation that resulted in the killing of Delos Santos claimed that he offered violent resistance to arresting authorities which necessitated self-defense on their part. Witnesses also narrated that Delos Santos was blindfolded and beaten when he was apprehended. The death of Delos Santos struck an angry chord among the public and even senators and sparked widespread condemnation of the brutality of the police.
