IRELAND has been successful in its bid to take a seat at the United Nations Security Council, the top table of international diplomacy. The quest for the Security Council seat was officially launched in 2018 with costs to the State in the region of €1m. A seat on the Security Council would give Ireland a greater role in the decision-making process surrounding those issues. The world’s response to the coronavirus pandemic will also be high on the agenda for the UN Security Council next year.
