The Italian news agency, Nova, has reported that Italy’s Interior Minister, Matteo Piantedosi, met on Wednesday with Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi, as part of a visit to Libya that began in Tripoli. Nova news agency explained that the meeting represents another step in Italy’s strategy of dialogue with Libya’s political and military actors. It marks the Minister's sixth visit to Libya since taking office, as he also met with the Interior Minister of the Government of National Unity, Emad Al-Trabelsi. Discussions in Tripoli focused on combating illegal migration, strengthening land and maritime border security, and developing training and capacity-building programs, as Rome prepares for a new legislative package ahead of the European Pact on Asylum and Migration's start; Nova said. Last April, he held talks with Haftar alongside Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Cirielli, as part of a mission focused on security cooperation.” Nova said.
