Italian Minister of Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, has revealed that Libyan authorities have thwarted 2,568 migration attempts since the beginning of 2026, while Tunisia prevented 2,528 illegal migration attempts. In a tweet on X, announcing the figures, Matteo Piantedosi explained that this is part of a broader strategy being implemented with Italy's contribution to combat human trafficking and irregular migration. The Italian Minister had previously confirmed, in a speech during a session entitled "The Challenge of Migration: An International Priority," held as part of the 18th Conference of Italian Ambassadors in Rome, that irregular migration flows to his country had decreased for the second consecutive year by more than 60%.
