Square, designed to let small traders accept payments using its handheld terminals and online, has launched its services in Ireland. The company, run by Twitter boss Jack Dorsey, charges 1.75pc for ‘card present’ transactions and 1.4pc, plus 25c per transaction, for online purchases. The move will add competition to the small business retail payments business in Ireland, which has seen a spike in growth since services such as Stripe began letting smaller traders accept credit cards. The Irish launch is the first time that Square has released its full ‘stack’ of products and services in a new market. I want to see the retail sector develop and become one of our most innovative and resilient sectors in Ireland.
