Early in 1780 Gordon met King George III a few times but failed to convince the king of the dangers of the Act. [ii] Although Gordon never went to jail for the Gordon riots, he was later convicted of defaming inter alios Marie Antoinette (it’s true!) [iv] The term “King Mob” afterwards came to denote, at least for us capitalists, an unruly and fearsome ‘proletariat’.
