Although the Awami League’s authoritarian rule was ousted, concerns about political violence persist. That same month, MSF recorded 42 incidents of political violence -- 27 of them stemming from internal BNP conflicts. Nine people were killed in political violence in July: four from the BNP, and five during clashes in Gopalganj. MSF reported that political violence claimed eight lives each in May and June. According to ASK’s report -- based on news reports -- from January to June, mob and lynching-related deaths totaled 89, while political violence accounted for 65 deaths.
