Liam Fox is furious at the European Union’s inflexibility on the timetable for negotiations EPAA leading pro-Brexit cabinet minister has accused Brussels of trying to “blackmail” Britain into paying a multibillion-pound divorce bill. Liam Fox, the international trade secretary, warned EU negotiators against trying to force the UK into a high divorce bill as the price of a post-Brexit trade deal. Conservative ministers are also under pressure from Labour, after Tom Watson, the party’s deputy leader, suggested that Britain could remain in the single market for ever. Neither side has put a figure on the divorce bill. The dispute focuses on EU demands that Britain honour all commitments made while a member, even for spending planned for after Brexit.
