Williams, who led the United Nations’ efforts to end the latest violence in Libya in 2020, said the country needed elections to give credit to the agency. One is in the east, supported by military commander Khalifa Hifter, and the other is in the western capital, Tripoli, supported by the United Nations. The national election commission did not nominate a final list of candidates for the presidential and parliamentary elections. Imadal-Sayeh, the head of the committee, told Congress on Monday that the militia threatened to stop the election process if the final list was announced. The legislative committee, which is tasked with overseeing the election process, will submit a report on how to move forward later this month.
