Maasai Mara community opposes gazettement of management plan

Maasai community leaders have urged Tourism CS Najib Balala to shelve plans to gazette the Maasai Mara Management Plan to allow more time for consultations. He said more than 5,000 people may lose their jobs once the Maasai Mara management law comes into force. He said that the Maasai community has committed to the parks conservation for a long time and as such, their input should be respected. Contacted, Narok Tourism executive Joseph Koila dismissed the claims, saying the leaders were playing politics. "It is not only Maasai Mara but all national parks and game reserves must submit the management plans," Koila said.
