PETALING JAYA: After being barraged by criticism from various quarters, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday issued an apology to the Indian community for having insulted them by using a derogatory term. Dr Mahathir, who is the opposition pact’s candidate for prime minister, claimed that the derogatory term was “widely used” when he was little. “I would like to apologise to the Indian community because I used the derogatory term. Dr Mahathir recently came under fire from various fronts, including netizens as well as non-governmental groups, after he uttered the derogatory term to describe the Indian community, at an event on Saturday. Hindraf Chairman P.Waytha Moorthy had also lambasted Dr Mahathir for using the term as it was unbecoming of him.
