(Image: Iain Buist/Newcastle Chronicle)Fresh hopes have been raised that a major North East city centre development can soon be completed after new owners swooped for the site. The multimillion-pound Milburngate development in Durham has been in limbo for years, despite first being unveiled a decade ago as a key scheme designed to become a vibrant place to live, work and relax. The £120m scheme – comprising offices, housing, bars and restaurants, a cinema and a hotel – hit the buffers in 2023 when contractor Tolent tumbled into administration. The development includes office space and 153 built-to-rent apartments, positioning the city centre as an attractive location for both working professionals and residents seeking contemporary city living.
