Major downtown Toronto intersections to reopen early after closure for repairs: mayor

Drivers and commuters can rejoice as two major downtown Toronto intersections are set to reopen weeks in advance after repairs and construction, according to Mayor Olivia Chow. Bay Street and College Street, as well as the Queen Street E. and Broadview Avenue intersection, are opening Friday night, said Chow at a news conference about the city's anti-congestion plan. Closures on Queen Street E. and Broadview Avenue began in mid-November last year for repairs to aging streetcar tracks and two 112-year-old watermains in the area, according to the city's website. Bay Street and College Street closed earlier this month for streetcar track repairs and to combine sewer infrastructure. Paula Fletcher said at the news conference that the Queen Street E. repairs "looked great" on Thursday night ahead of the reopening.
