The attacker fled before being shot dead by police in the car park of a hospital. Laure Beccuau, the state prosecutor, said the man appeared to have targeted passers-by at random in Hautes Bruyères park in Villejuif. A third person suffered wounds that were not thought to be life-threatening. Franck Le Bohellec, the mayor of Villejuif, said a 56-year-old man had been fatally stabbed.
