The Manny Machado era for the San Diego Padres began in earnest Saturday at the Peoria Sports Complex and already their $300 million acquisition is putting his stamp on the team. After several years of insisting on playing shortstop, Machado began his Padres career at third base, just where it all began with the Baltimore Orioles. “For now I’m playing third base,” Machado said upon coming out of his first Cactus League game against the San Francisco Giants after three innings. Let’s hope Tatis breaks camp and he’s our shortstop. That’s going to be a helluva infield we’re going to have.”Opening day is March 28 against the Giants at Petco Park in San Diego.
