AGRA/FIROZABAD: A day after TOI reported that many in the village of slain CRPF jawan Vir Singh, killed in an encounter with terrorists in J&K last week, was denied cremation space because of his caste, many villagers have in an effort to make amends have come forward to say that they would like to call their village Nagla Shaheed Vir Singh gaon as a token of respect to the martyr.The villages also demanded a petrol pump and a job for the poor family of the soldier.According to gram Pradhan of the village, Vijay Singh, "In an unanimous decision, the villagers have now sought a memorial statue of martyr Vir Singh and a grand stone gateway at the entrance of the village, so that village can now be known on the name of its brave son. This is nothing in front of brave sacrifices done by Vir Singh," he said.Meanwhile, speaking to TOI, family members of slain soldier claimed, that on Monday, a senior officer of defence forces visited their home and assured for financial help and a job for elder son.Constable Vir Singh, who joined CRPF in 1991, left behind his wife, three children, including a 22-year daughter (Rajni) who is pursuing MSc and two sons 18-year-old son (Ramandeep) pursuing BTech and 16-year-old (Sandeep) who just cleared intermediate.His younger brother Ranjeet is a labour, while his septuagenarian father Ramsneh is a rickshaw puller in Firozabad.Speaking to TOI, Rajni, eldest among three siblings, said, "Earlier I was not worried about future of my family as papa was there to take care, but now I have responsibility to care of my entire family.
