(Photo by Sascha Schuermann/Getty Images)Around 15,000 meat processing factory workers will be asked to take weekly Covid-19 tests under plans being considered by the Government to stop the spread of the virus in the industry. Meat-factory workers in the three counties still under local lockdown would be the first to undergo the new testing regime before it is then rolled out nationwide. Under new plans being discussed by ministers, all meat-factory workers will be tested every week for four weeks to ensure they are not spreading the virus in work while asymptomatic. It remains unclear who will pay for the large-scale testing of factory workers with Government sources last night saying the focus was on the logistics of introducing weekly tests across the country. "This will focus on delivering quicker testing and results with a view towards protecting meat workers from infection while maintaining continuity in production," he said.
