LAMPEDUSA, 30 JAN – Five smugglers, three Bangladeshis and two Sudanese, who landed at two landings last December 26 in Lampedusa, were arrested by the police for criminal conspiracy, aiding and abetting aggravated illegal immigration, torture and kidnapping for the purpose of extortion. The provision of the Dda of Palermo, carried out last Tuesday, was validated by the investigating judge who ordered the precautionary measure in prison for the five suspects. Some migrants allegedly reported the violence suffered in Libyan safehouses for the entire time of their stay inside the compound and until shortly before leaving for Sicily (ANSA).
