Milk farmers hail move

Namakkal is one of the major milk production centres in the state, accounting for about 45,000 milk farmers attached to 486 village level primary milk producers cooperative societies attached to the Salem District Cooperative Milk Producers Union (Aavin). Due to the presence of a large number of milk farmers, the district administration till a few years ago used to conduct special grievances redress day meetings for the milk farmers every month. These meetings came handy for both the milk farmers and the Aavin authorities to highlight and understand the problems confronting each other and solve the same. Rajendran, general secretary of the Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Welfare Association (TNMPWA), the Collectors of the district used to attach much importance for the separate meeting for the milk farmers for solving their problems. Even in the last monthly farmers’ grievances redress day meeting, Mr. Rajendan raised various issues confronting the milk farmers and pleaded for the resumption of separate meeting.
