The coronation of King Charles III, watched by millions across the globe, was a grand spectacle. Within Britain and some parts of the Anglophone world, the formal anointment of Charles III was a semi-mystical event. Although its constitutional role is very limited and the scope of the royal prerogative nominal, the monarch plays an important role as a symbol of British nationhood. First, India had played a leading role in securing the refashioning of the British Commonwealth to the Commonwealth of Nations with the queen as the head. It was correct and aimed at informing Britain that its relationship with India must move to a different plane.
