SUNDAY PUZZLE — This puzzle by Hal Moore really spoke to me, in what I’d call an endearing and eccentric voice. But my interest never flagged; there were too many interesting words and little twists, and the theme was subtle and gracefully executed. For whatever reason I felt compelled recently to look up the origins of the use of the term “love” in tennis, to mean a score of zero. But it’s also possible that the term is for when a player with nothing, a score of zero, just plays for the love of the game. I’m very sweet on that notion, and it seems as if it can apply to all kinds of things, even crossword solving.
