Moko killers' appeal bid fails

Moko died in August 2015. A bid by the killers of Moko Rangitoheriri to appeal their sentences for manslaughter has failed, and the Court of Appeal judge has ruled that their punishment was "entirely within range and not manifestly excessive". Moko (3) died in August 2015 while in the care of the couple. In the weeks leading up to his death Moko suffered horrendous and brutal abuse at the hands of the couple. Shailer and Haerewa pleaded guilty to abusing Moko and they received the longest sentence handed down in New Zealand for the manslaughter of a child.
