The accident took place on Bagerhat-Morelganj Highway in the Kalikabari Dona neighbourhood around 10am on Sunday, said Morelganj Police Station OC Rashed Alam. The dead were identified as Shilpi Akhter, 35, and her son, Md Omar, who was a second-grader at a local government-run primary school. Shilpi, wife of local resident Musharraf Hossain, was on her way to drop off her son to school, police said. “A microbus speeding towards Morelganj rammed them as they were crossing the highway. Police have impounded the vehicle but the driver has fled, he added.
